I am delighted to report that Peter Cribb, Abdi Hassan and I attended the formal welcoming ceremony of the container opening at Jarriban University in Somalia today. online!!
There were several dignitaries in attendance including the Mayor, the Rector of the University, The Doctor in charge of the hospital, Dr Sayid Abdulle who has been so very helpful in sorting out issues, the Chief of Police, the community leaders and the women who worked with Soraya to advance the project. The local TV station was filming too.

Each speaker was profuse in their thanks to us, Donations in Kind, the Rotary Foundation and the Somali community in Australia who had helped raise funds. When the doors were finally opened - after a struggle - we found that some of the contents had been misplaced, and boxes squashed - the journey must have been rough!. But there was great excitement. The container left Melbourne on 21 August and had a difficult and challenging journey via Dubai, then onto Bosasso, and then by truck to Jarriban.

Our sincere thanks to Richard Blakeman and the District 9800 Foundation committee for supporting us, to Donations in Kind and the team of Laurie, Frank, Colleen, Andy, Jim, Mark, Norm and Maurice who helped with booking dates, organising equipment and loading the container. And most of all to Abdi, Mohammed, Soraya and Yasir who helped to raise a large amount of money towards the shipping costs from the community.
Quality photos and a report will be sent in coming weeks.
