President Anne

October is a busy month for projects & activities, with Seniors Week, Mental Heath Awareness, Carers week and National Safe Work Month just to name a few.  We continue to meet on Zoom, with Melbourne still in Covid stage 4.

Mental health month
At this week's meeting we had the privilege of hearing from Betty Kitchener.  She inspired us all to gain Mental Health First Aid, an accredited course Betty developed with husband Tony Jorm.

National Safe Work Month:  Safe Work Australia
In Australia, October is National Safe Work Month - a time to make your commitment to improving safety and health in your workplace.  This year's theme, Work Health and Safety through COVID-19, acknowledges and reflects the wide-reaching impacts of COVID-19 on Australian businesses, employers and workers.

END POLIO MONTH
There is no cure, but there are safe and effective vaccines. The
strategy to eradicate polio is therefore based on preventing infection
by immunizing every child until transmission stops and the world is
   polio-free.

That is why this October we are asking you to
Walk With Us for those that can’t.

Our Club has a team:  https://www.rotarywalkwithus.org/fundraisers/FlemingtonKensington

Please support us by giving what you can.

RORP
Peter Cribb & the RORP team, Lyn, Shradd, & Sam continuously work on Rotary Overseas Recycled Playgrounds. On Saturday, some of those who live within the 5km limit will meet at JJ Holland Park to mark up the playground there. As soon as we are out of stage 4 restrictions, we will be loading the next container, which will be Container #5 to Sri Lanka.

Peter has also been asked if we could support a container of hospital beds as COVID has hit this country hard & they have a shortage of Hospital beds. Peter is following up with DIK.

Kensington Neighbourhood House:

Carolyn Webster,  the manager has resigned to take up a new challenge.  She leaves behind an outstanding legacy of community support & networking. There will be big shoes to fill there after her 16 years of outstanding community service.
She will be very much missed by all who have worked with her for the community.

Friday 23rd October /2020 is the Public Holiday for the AFL Grand Final, Hopefully we will be in stage 3 (which may allow us to catch up with a few more people).

The COVID numbers are down to 11 today. Hooray the light is at the end of the tunnel.
I hope everyone is staying safe & well.
