         Global Grant Scholar
Our club has been chosen as host sponsor for a
Global Grant Scholar from Japan to study at the
         University of Melbourne.

In conjunction with District 2560 and the Rotary Club of Niigata, we are supporting
Ms Haruka Tanaka to study a Master's Degree in Education.
I will be welcoming Haruka at Melbourne Airport on Monday and driving her to her accommodation in Swanston Street near the university.
At that time, I will be providing her a Welcome Pack including information about Melbourne, a MYKI, our club and settling in.
She will be invited to attend club events in coming weeks, and I encourage members who have the time to welcome her and invite her to share activities with them.

RIMERN CONNECTS WITH FARNHAM STREET NEIGHBOURHOOD LEARNING CENTRE

A phone call to Cathy Connop who then connected with Lesley has seen a young Somali woman, Faiza, provided with household goods thanks to our club's RIMERN connection.
Cathy was able to drive Faiza across to Brunswick West and help her arrange for necessary items.
The wonderful Susie Cole was on hand to help.

Cathy has also shared the work of RIMERN through the current Farnham News.

The Op Shop assists Bili Nursery by supplying excess/lower quality pillow cases for collecting native seed.

Bili Nursery is a part of Westgate Biodiversity - an organisation focused on regenerating inner-city vegetation and community education.
They produce around 150,000 plants per year for local council projects, as well as initiatives for Koala habitat restoration, climate change actions and educating local community members and school groups on environmentally friendly approaches to boost the local ecosystem.

Mel from Bili has sent his thanks and appreciation for the help that Rotary Flemington has offered over the past 9 months and look forward to the upcoming seed collection season of summer 2023-24 with added enthusiasm as we will be well-supplied to get out into the environment and get to work.

PLASTIC FREE JULY
Transitioning to a completely plastic-free lifestyle overnight would be a challenging feat for most of us! But what if we all used July as a catalyst, and each took small steps towards reducing our plastic footprint? July could be a roadmap for year-round changes - we could make a real effort to actively seek alternatives, reduce unnecessary plastic packaging and make sustainable swaps.
