Lesley's letter:
Welcome to 2025: the Year of the Snake in the Chinese Zodiac {or the little dragon as some say}. The snake is associated with wisdom, transformation, healing, and rebirth. If you were born after 1 February in 941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, you are probably a Snake and are said to be intelligent, creative and resourceful. That sounds like a Rotarian!
We wish all our Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Malaysian, Singaporean, Filipino, Indonesian and Buddhist communities from Nepal, India, Bhutan, and Tibet and Happy Lunar New Year.
After Mel's retirement, the Board agreed to operate the shop with a Rotarian on duty each day. This has been very successful so far. We need all members tostep up and assist when they can.
Many members and our Op Shop volunteers have been hard at work, back at the Op Shop cleaning, reorganising and decluttering for the new year. Many thanks to Deb, Vinh, Rui and Nahla for their amazing work.
We also welcomed a new volunteer Laura Peters, and have been delighted to welcome new member Chris Richardson who has been invaluable.
Thank you to Karolina and Josie for their donations of books and toys.
In the clearing out process, we have delivered large quantities of books and toys to the Maternal & Child Health Nurses, Flemington Hub and The Venny.
There are several events on our calendar and all members are encouraged to support as they are able. Remembering the mantra of PDG Neville John:
Family 1st, Work 2nd, Rotary 3rd and do what you can, when you can, with what time and skill you have available.
I hope to see you all next Wednesday at Hardimans Hotel for dinner when we will her from our NYSF students, Charlotte and Simeon.
