President's Report

This last fortnight we have been completing the admin tasks associated with the Art Show, the many Thank You's, payments to artists and associated administrivia.

It has been such a long leadup to the show that we forgot to take the opportunity to be grateful for our supporters, family and friends and to just say THANK YOU!

Also, we continue to upload material to our Gallery247 site including some podcasts with our artists.

At this week's meeting we were joined by Sheila Byard, a local historian who spoke to us about the history of Flemington and Kensington.  Sheila is well know to many of us through her connections in the community through Guides, the Methodist Church in Kensington and her relationship with our older members Ted Frank,Len Seddon and Geoff Cawsey.

She brought along a number of historic documents and photos to share with us which illustrated her talk.

Paul Harris Award made to Shraddha Sharma

After this week's meeting, Anne and Lesley visited Shradd to farewell her on her journey home to Nepal.
Anne also took the opportunity to present Shradd with a Paul Harris Award for our outstanding and dedicated work to the RORP project over the last 18 months.
She has worked tirelessly to take some of the load off Peter Cribb and has liaised with members of RORP cells across all districts in Victoria.  She has also revamped many of the procedures including the expression of interest form on the club website to streamline the process.  Congratulations Shradd and thank you.

Shradd wll be away at the time of our Club Changeover so Anne chose to make this award now.  We believe that Shradd's family will be very proud of her and what she has achieved.

Next week's meeting will fall on April 21st a famous day for Rotary.  This is the anniversary of the founding of the Rotary Club of Melbourne who will celebrate 100 years.  This is the beginning of our centenary year in Australia and New Zealand as the Rotary Clubs of Auckland, Wellington and Sydney follow on.

Fresh Prince Cafe, 192 Bellair Street Kensington at 7.15am.

RORP CELEBRATION DINNER

Last week I joined Peter Cribb, Sam Nicol and the RORP Management Team in the farewell celebration dinner.  We were joined by the Sri Lankan Consul General Mr Kapila Fonseka and Barb Champion from Play Australia.  This was a lovely chance to chat about the success of RORP over 4 years and the transition to RORP Central - a Multi District program.

Mr Fonseka and Barb Champion have been strong supporters of the playgrounds project especially to Sri Lanka over the years.

The 2 containers destined for Nepal are almost complete.  It is hoped they will ship within the next 2 weeks.

Shradd is off to Nepal to visit her family this week and will be able to see how the process unfolds "on the ground"/  We look forward to hearing from her.

Rotary 100 Community Park
This community park is for people and also for the local fauna, bird and insect life to use as a habitat corridor enhancing the native environment alongside the Maribyrnong.

Tree Planting for our club's Rotary 100 celebration:  Fairbairn Park Maribyrnong access via Woods Street will be held on Sunday May 2nd 10-2.

Plants have been ordered from the Victorian Indigenous Nursery Co-Op and will be collected by MVCC prior to the day.
We have 480 understorey and groundcover tubestock and a large number of more mature trees so need everyone to be there.

MVCC Conservation Officer Milly Burke is assisting us with logistics and council will prepare the land and dig holes for the larger trees.

There will also be some very large rocks placed around for smaller creatures to utilise, as well as a park bench and Rotary plaque.

Friends, family, children and anyone interested in the environment and conservation is welcome.  BYO gloves and trowel - watering cans welcomed.

Rotary Centenary in Australia
In 2021, Rotary celebrates a centenary or service in Australia. To mark this incredible milestone, the Royal Australian Mint has produced this stunning coloured uncirculated coin. Australia’s over 1100 clubs and more than 30,000 members are proudly making an impact locally and globally with their dedication to community service. This coin honours the hard work of Australia’s Rotarians who organise a range of community programs including overseas youth exchanges, life changing surgery and fundraising for bushfire survivors.
