President Shraddha
Shraddha enjoyed a very busy few days at RICON23:  with her parents and a large contingent from Nepal.  She also volunteered on the RORP and Caring for Kidneys booths.

Peter Cribb was also on the RORP booth; Abdi Hassan attended his first convention, and Lesley McCarthy was on the ESRAG booth.

Lesley and Peter also caught up with the club's former Royce Abbey Scholar Jimmy Musiime who attended from Uganda.

This week's breakfast at the Flem Ken Bowls Club saw a large attendance.

Congratulations to Alex De Bortoli and Drew Sheehan who were formally inducted as members with assistance from Peter Cribb and Len Seddon.

We were delighted to welcome Beate and congratulate her on her recent marriage, but saddened with the resignations of Peter Cribb and Yvonne Farquharson.  Peter and Bev spend most of their time at Torquay now and are stepping back from regular attendance.  Yvonne and Bob have decided to relocate to NSW to be closer to family who need their support.

We hope to see everyone at our club changeover on Wednesday 21 June at Flem Ken Bowling Club.
Please RSVP to Melina.

RICON23 Hospitality evening at the Clocktower - a great success!

After more than 12 months in the planning, this musical evening was a great success.
The audience was treated to a magnificent performance by the Australian Womens Choir and Silvie Paladino - world class musicians.
Drinks and finger food were had afterwards with lots of conversations, connections and networking.
Many thanks to Sandy Belcher for her organisation, volunteers Anne Heyes, Peter Cribb, Yvonne & Bob Farquharson, Barbara Ryan, Frances Stratford, Deb Ryan, Lesley McCarthy and Melina Cacetta.

Many thanks to the Rotary Clubs of Essendon, Footscray and Keilor East for their support and assistance.

Global Grant Scholar
Following a request from the District 9800 Foundation team, our club has agreed to sponsor a Global Grant Scholar from Japan to study at the University of Melbourne.
In conjunction with District 2560 and the Rotary Club of Niigata, we are supporting Ms Haruka Tanaka to study a Masters Degree in Education.

The application has been approved now and we have been in touch with Haruka.
I will now be reaching out to all members to assist in mentoring Haruka, introducing her to Melbourne and assisting with her acclimatization.  She is expected to arrive late in July - just waiting for a visa.

With our club's contacts in education, members with experience as international students, and the connection to Ms Ching Chan at MAC {teacher of Japanese and Chinese] we are well placed to support Haruka in her time at University.
