President's Report

November is Melbourne Cup carnival and I hope everyone backed a winner.

This is a busy month for projects & activities including the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict.  The focus of this day is to raise awareness about the damage inflicted upon the environment during war or conflict. This day aims to promote conflict prevention and peace-building strategies among nations to better protect the natural resources of the environment.  This day was established in 2001 by the UN General Assembly and is observed annually on November 6th.

We continue to meet on Zoom, with Melbourne still observing restrictions.  Hopefully, December will allow us to gather together.

OCTOBER: END POLIO MONTH
There is no cure, but there are safe and effective vaccines. The strategy to eradicate polio is therefore based on preventing infection by immunizing every child until transmission stops and the world is polio-free.
During the month in Walking for those who cannot, our Flemington Kensington team https://www.rotarywalkwithus.org/fundraisers/FlemingtonKensington raised $1,502

RORP
Peter. Shradd, Lyn and Sam continuously work on the Rotary Overseas Recycled Playgrounds despite COVID.  Container #5 will be loaded and ship this next week.

International:  A request to us through Peter Cribb has resulted in our club partnering with the BEAP Foundation to ship 2 containers of hospital beds to sri Lanka.  They are desperate for beds as COVID has hit hard. Thanks to PDG Senake and Mr Nihal De Run for their work with Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka to ease the process.

Both Op Shops have reopened with COVID Safe protocols in place.  Edith, Karolina, Betty, Mel, Sandy, Lana, Joe, Nahla, Mila and other volunteer helpers, have been working really hard to organize  a back log of donations, cleaning and reorganizing.

Lorry's team has done an extraordinary job as always to have the Werribee shop sparkling clean & presented with such love. Lorry & her team have had great success with sales as has Flemington. I think lots of customers are excited we have reopened.

Roses say Thank You
Thank you to Daniel and Jasmine from the VRC for the opportunity to partner with them and share their fabulous Roses with deserving community groups this week.

Whatever Rotary may mean to us, to the world it will be known by the results it achieves.
