I do hope everyone has had the chance to stop, breathe, regroup and enjoy some relaxation with family and friends.

Many thanks to Beate McManus and Anne Heyes for organising the New Years Eve get together, I am sorry I couldn't join with you all but trust you enjoyed a wonderful evening with a fantastic view of the fireworks.

As you will be aware, much of our state and country is burning with the horrendous bushfires consuming the landscape - land, livestock, native animals, homes and businesses.    Rotary has commenced action.  Whilst we are not first responders, there is much we can and are doing.   District 9800 has established a Bushfire Response team and DG Grant is working with his fellow Victorian DGs as to needs both financial and service.

At our first meeting for 2020 next Wednesday 15th,  we have some financial matters to discuss, and a motion for approval of a donation to bushfire relief.

Peter Cribb also has news on the Rotary Overseas Recycled Playgrounds program including the installation of another playground at a Buddhist School in Lunuwila with the RC Negombo.  He also needs commitments for removal of 2 playgrounds in Melbourne and the reshuffle of equipment from container to container at DiK.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the 15th.

Lesley

With many thanks to members and their families for the contributions to our 3 separate Christmas Hampers.
we were very pleased to receive a donation of $500 from the Nelson alexander Foundation and thank Paul Harrison from Nelson Alexander Flemington for the support.

Christmas packs were delivered to Leonie Delaney, Moonee Valley Child & Maternal Health Nurse for the children on her enhanced care list.  These packs contained toys, books, balls donated by Bunnings, Sukin care packs for the mothers as well as some festive foods and chocolates.

Share the Dignity// It's in the Bag were delighted t receive 50 handbags jam packed full of toiletries and care products for women in need.  These have found their home at WIRE - the Women's Information Referral Exchange in Footscray where they will brighten the day of women escaping domestic violence, trauma, distress and homelessness.

MaryAnne at Bolton Clark/RDNS was amazed at the delivery of toiletries and foodstuffs for the homeless/isolated elderly program in West Melbourne.  4 cartons of goods plus a cash donation from a member.  Pictured some of the filled hampers.
Carols by Candlelight
An enjoyable evening was had by all who participated at the club BBQ for Moonee Valley Council's Carols in Queens Park this year.  It was a lovely night weather wise, a fabulous crowd and excellent music enhanced by some professional solo artists.  Thanks to Jon Temby, Peter Donnellan, Allan Bruno, Ted Frank, John Sklenar, Shradd Sharma, Anne Heyes, Sam Nicol and Lesley McCarthy.
MAC Awards Night
AAnne Heyes and Lesley McCarthy attended the Mount alexander College Awards night on December 16th.  MAC are a Corporate Member of our club and annually we provide extensive support to the school and students.  Lesley presented the second Del King Award to Zebib Gebreslase assisted by Del's widower Sean McConville.  Haniyah Abdou Said, the inaugural recipient was also on hand to congratulate Zebib.  It ws a pleasant surtprise to meet up with Del's parents, Pat and Peter King who had travelled from Yarrawonga to see AJ McConville graduate.

Another delightful award on the night was that of the Caltex All Rounder Award to a Year 12 student:  this went to Aziza Sawiz who was our club's NYSF student in January this year.  Aziza was bvery pleased with her ATAR and hopes to study psychology next year.

Rotary Overseas Recycled Playgrounds
The work continues at an amazing pace with many councils and schools continuing to dismantle and extract playgrounds over the Summer season.
Assistance is needed in coding and labelling elements of each playground, a task which is currently being done solely by Lyn Borghouts.  If you can assist, please let Peter Cribb or Lyn know.

In Sri Lanka, installations are progressing with new playgrounds being opened weekly.
The latest installations wer completed by the Sri Lankan Army at the Kaliwanal Pe School in Mulativu and the Ampalavanapokkane Kaleivaani Pre school.
